I just uploaded my very first video, ‘How to Edit Backlit Portraits.’

For this tutorial, I used a self-portrait I took in Santa Barbara last week! Check out my Instagram for more photos from my trip to Cali.

dad by fire in jt

There’s a lot to learn about being a photographer that you can’t find in a manual.

If you guys haven’t seen it yet, I just made a new portfolio of all my favorite work. Going back through all my photos made me realize how much evolved and improved over the past 5 years. It’s so crazy and cool to see. Looking at how far I’ve come inspired me write this post, 6 things I wish I knew when I was just starting out.

Desert Magic – Anza Borrego

When I was young, I wanted to be an astronaut.

I wanted to know was it was like to float alone in silent space. To be weightless. To walk on an alien planet. To feel time stand still.

Although my astronaut dream eventually faded into a childhood memory, my desire to visit another world did not. As much as I love the ocean, the mountains, the depths of a redwood forest… the desert will always have a special place in my heart.
